Există un club select al marilor piloţi de Formula 1 care sunt încă în viaţă după încheierea carierei. Niki Lauda a scăpat ca prin urechile acului în 1976, Ronnie Peterson şi-a pierdut viaţa în 1979 iar acum venea rândul lui Gilles Villeneuve să ne părăsească. Cu toţii erau conştienţi că un astfel de lucru s-ar putea întâmpla. Dar ambiţia lui Villeneuve a fost mai puternică decât raţionamentul.
